Using a loft bed in a bedroom is a great way to create more usable floor space when furnishing a small or compact room. Unfortunately over the years loft beds have become associated with decorating on a budget since loft beds tend to be very economical. The truth is that a good quality loft bed can add functionality and great style and looks to your bedroom; you do not have to sacrifice one for the other.

Loft beds work by raising the bed onto a frame and suspending it above the floor several feet. This is sort of like a bunk bed, but without the bottom bed and frame so that you will have open space below the bed. This space is excellent for a desk and chair to create a study area or you can put a couch or love seat under the bed for more seating or an entertainment area. The possibilities are endless.

When searching for a loft bed for your room you want to consider the height of the ceiling and the size of the room. This is very important since you don’t want to purchase a loft bed and then have a cramped room because you purchased one that was too large for your space. You will typically want the bed to be high enough that you can use the space underneath for practical purposes, however you don’t want the bed to be so high that whoever is sleeping in the bed can hit their head on the ceiling when sitting upright. You can also have a shorter loft bed if you are only looking for extra storage space for a dresser or cabinets.

Loft beds tend to be more common place in kids rooms and dorm rooms. It is very typical these days that your child will have to share his or her dorm room with one or more other students causing crowded and cramped space. By purchasing a loft bed for this room, you can help create a more comfortable and relaxed space for all that share it. One of the great things about loft beds in kids rooms is that if you have two children they tend to fight over who gets the top bunk when you are using bunk beds to save on space. With two separate loft beds in the room, each child will have their own “top” bed and they will still have plenty of floor space for playing or studying. You can also use fabrics and by simply hanging them off the edge of the beds you can create separate and private play area’s for each child when they desire to have private time.
